Paul Goldschmidt was the hero of the night for the St. Louis Cardinals Monday, hitting a 10th-inning go-ahead grand slam that proved to be the game-winner.
As if that weren’t enough of an accomplishment all on its own, Goldschmidt also made history by having the ball land in the Allegheny River.
Prior to his opposite-field show of power, balls had landed in the Allegheny River 51 times. Yet when Goldschmidt did it, he was the first right-handed batter ever to accomplish the feat.
That’s an incredible achievement, and of course it was huge for the Cardinals, who went on to win 6-5.
