The Denver Broncos are playing the Atlanta Falcons Thursday night in the annual Hall of Fame Game, but Joe Flacco and most Broncos starters will be on the bench. With Flacco on the sideline, rookie Drew Lock won’t be starting, however.
Broncos head coach Vic Fangio told reporters that Kevin Hogan will get the start under center, and that Lock and Brett Rypien would both get into the game.
Denver has made it clear that Lock is a project. Fangio himself recently said that the rookie out of Missouri really isn’t even a quarterback yet.
Clearly, they are going into the preseason with the idea that Lock won’t be thrust into the spotlight even if Flacco were to be injured and miss time. The Broncos appear to be putting as little pressure on the second-round quarterback as possible, which is honestly the right move considering how raw he is.
