Angels designate free-agent bust Matt Harvey for assignment

The $11 million risk the Los Angeles Angels took on veteran starting pitcher Matt Harvey this winter didn’t pay off.

Los Angeles designated the 30-year-old former All-Star for assignment on Friday.

Harvey just yielded six runs in his last start as a member of the Angels against the Houston Astros on Thursday.

He’s been hit incredibly hard all season, posting a 3-5 record with a 7.09 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 12 starts this season.

A former All-Star as a member of the New York Mets, Harvey’s career has taken a turn in recent seasons. In fact, he’s posted a 15-21 record with a 5.89 ERA and 1.47 WHIP since the start of the 2017 campaign.

It remains to be seen if the veteran will latch on with another team when he ultimately elects for free agency.
