MLB commissioner Rob Manfred spoke on Tuesday about the seemingly never ending stadium situations with both the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics.
While the commissioner was pleased with the progress that’s been made by both teams, he expressed particular optimism with Oakland’s.
Both stadium issues have been ongoing for years.
With Oakland in particular, there is reason to be cautious. Oakland has had plans squashed in the past. So, until ground is broken, any expectations should be somewhat tempered.
Manfred has expressed optimism in the past that the A’s will one day get a new stadium. For the sake of Oakland, there’s never been more of a need for a deal to happen. With the Golden State Warriors set to move to San Francisco following the NBA Finals and the Oakland Raiders moving to Las Vegas after the 2019 season, the Athletics will soon be Oakland’s last team.
