The New York Knicks were one of the biggest losers from the early NBA free agency frenzy, and no blow was felt more keenly than Kevin Durant choosing the Brooklyn Nets.
A while after Durant officially announced his decision, a report emerged that James Dolan had refused to give Durant a max contract. The reasoning was that the Knicks didn’t want to risk all that money for a player who just ruptured his Achilles.
Whether that is wise or not is up for debate at this point.
However, it isn’t something that Knicks fans, and NBA fans on the whole, wanted to hear.
They made their opinions known on social media with some serious James Dolan bashing.
Instead of signing Durant, Dolan and Co. spent $63 million over three years for Julius Randle.
Not surprisingly, this wasn’t the salve that Knicks fans were looking for to soothe their wounds.
The Knicks are also reportedly targeting Warriors backup guard Quinn Cook in a sign-and-trade deal.
This, too, was not seen as a move that would elevate the organization out of the Eastern Conference’s basement.
So, yeah. Not exactly a banner day for James Dolan and the New York Knicks.
