The New York Knicks struck out on top free-agent targets such as Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Specifically, New York did not even offer Durant a max contract after he suffered a ruptured Achilles.
But the Knicks are doing work on the second-tier free-agent market. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, New York has signed stud young forward Julius Randle to a three-year, $63 million contract.
Randle, 24, opted out of his contract with the New Orleans Pelicans following a career-best 2018-19 campaign that saw him average 21.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
A former lottery pick of the Los Angeles Lakers, Randle is the type of young acquisition that can help a talent-depleted roster. He’ll team up with rookie R.J. Barrett to form a solid front-court duo.
