The New York Knicks are starting to look like a major loser as NBA free agency gets going. The team already missed out on Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, who decided to team up with one another on the Brooklyn Nets.
Apparently the Knicks were not prepared to offer Durant a max contract before he opted to sign with their in-city rival. That’s the word from Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.
Linked to Durant for the past calendar year, the Knicks were seen as the favorites to land the two-time NBA Finals MVP as recently as last week.
Given the ruptured Achilles KD suffered in the NBA Finals, it seems understandable that the Knicks would be hesitant.
That’s until we realize that the Golden State Warriors had offered Durant a super-max contract before he signed with Brooklyn.
Other teams were not gun shy after Durant suffered a career-altering injury mere weeks ago. Unfortunately for Knicks fans, that did not include this long-downtrodden organization.
