Kings could land Clint Capela as part of Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade?

The Houston Rockets reportedly really want to add Jimmy Butler to create a three-headed backcourt monster with James Harden and Chris Paul. In order to do that, however, Houston needs to land Butler in a sign-and-trade scenario with the Philadelphia 76ers. And a byproduct of that scenario could be Rockets center Clint Capela heading to the Sacramento Kings.

Sam Amick of The Athletic broke it down on Sunday just hours ahead NBA free agency’s official start. He noted that the Kings have a “very real” chance to land Dewane Dedmon, and that “Sacramento is ONE OF the secured scenarios for Houston’s Clint Capela if Jimmy Butler decides to come Houston’s way.”

The Kings are also reportedly set to throw a huge contract at veteran free agent Al Horford. Though, if they had to choose just one, Capela might just win out due to his youth (25 years old) and energy on the defensive end of the court.

Regardless, it’s clear that upgrading his frontcourt is a huge priority of general manager Vlade Divac this summer.

Per Spotrac, they have over $59 million in “practical cap space” heading into the 2019-20 season at this time, so there’s plenty of money to go around. Though, if Harrison Barnes re-signs after declining his player option recently, that figure would decrease significantly.
