Kings ‘definitely’ have ‘significant interest’ in signing Al Horford, per report

When Al Horford declined his $30.1 million player option for the 2019-20 season with the Boston Celtics, it came as a surprise to many. Now here’s another surprise: The Sacramento Kings may just be the team that comes away with the talented big man in free agency.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reported Sunday that the Kings “definitely” have “significant interest in Horford.” He noted that the Kings also have the cap space to give Horford the four-year deal worth over $100 million that has been his reported target.

This report bolsters previous reports that the Kings are a “strong threat” to sign the five-time All-Star.

Though, another team with an aggressive owner and cap space is also eyeing Horford to give its young squad a veteran leader. So, there’s still quite a bit of fluidity to this entire situation.

Last season, Horford averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game for the Celtics. He’d be a tremendous addition to an up-and-coming Kings team that could use a tenured veteran with plenty of postseason experience.
