Miguel Andujar elects for shoulder surgery, likely ending his season

It was announced on Wednesday that New York Yankees infielder Miguel Andujar will undergo surgery on his right shoulder, likely ending his 2019 season.

Andujar, who had recently returned to the Injured List with a labrum tear in his right shoulder, was deciding between rehab and surgery. On Wednesday, the Yankees announced that he elected surgery.

Andujar went on the IL early in the season. He did return, despite some initial fear that he was done for the year at that time. But it was apparent early that things hadn’t really improved. Upon returning, he hit only .088/.114/.088/ Overall, he hit .128/.143/.128 on the year.

That’s a far cry from where Andujar was last season. In 2018, he hit .297/.327.527 with 27 home runs and was one of the top rookies in the league.
