Suspended Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell will be removed from the restricted list on Wednesday. When he is, he’ll head to the minors.

Cubs president Theo Epstein announced on Tuesday (H/T Daniel Kramer, MLB.com) that Russell will be sent to Triple-A Iowa, where he’ll split time between shortstop and second base.

In February, his teammates made it known that Russell had their support.

Russell is at the end of a 40-game suspension for his alleged involvement in a domestic violence incident with his now ex-wife.

Given the severity of the allegations, Russell will obviously be on a tight watch with the Cubs and MLB. But if he stays out of trouble, chances are that he’ll be back in the majors pretty soon.
