The Boston Red Sox will be without pitcher Nathan Eovaldi for the foreseeable future as he’s set to undergo elbow surgery, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Rosenthal wrote that the surgery will be “to remove loose bodies in his elbow” and noted it’s a similar procedure to the one he had last year that cost him two months during his tenure with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Eovaldi was placed on Boston’s injured list two days ago.
The 2019 season has been full of struggles for the pitcher, who has surrendered 21 hits, carried just a 16/11 K/BB ratio and gave up four home runs so far.
However, his injury comes at a frustrating time. Eovaldi was coming off his best start this season — a six-inning gem against the New York Yankees in which he allowed just one unearned run.
