Montez Sweat blew up the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine, seemingly securing a top-10 draft slot in the process. Then, news broke that he had a heart condition that is causing some teams to take him off their draft boards altogether.
Now comes a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that clears the air significantly and bodes well for his draft stock.
Sweat has all the physical tools teams look for in an edge rusher. He tallied 22.5 sacks and 30 tackles for a loss in his final two seasons at Mississippi State before absolutely stunning folks with his speed at the combine.
Then, he showed up big time at the Senior Bowl practices, thanks to outbursts like this one:
Unfortunately, many had felt he will end up falling in the draft due to his heart condition. That chatter caused him to abstain attending the draft in Nashville, too.
Now this fantastic news should have Sweat rocketing back up into the top half of the first round. A top-10 selection shouldn’t be ruled out, either.
