Every time the Houston Astros win a game in April, third baseman Alex Bregman will donate money to a very worthy cause.
For every victory in April, Bregman will donate $1,000 to AB for Autism. It’s a cause very close to Bregman’s heart.
“One of my real good friends since…forever, I’ve been hitting with him since I was 14 years old. He’s like family to me. His son was diagnosed with autism probably three or four years ago now,” Bregman explained in a video posted to Twitter by Alyson Footer of MLB.com. “Ever since then, I decided that it was definitely going to be my cause, what I was very passionate about. I wanted to make an impact in the autism community.”
That’s certainly a noble cause. And if this April is anything like either of the previous two Aprils, a lot of money will be raised. In 2017, the Astros was 16-9 in April. In 2018, they were 18-9.
Bregman did note that it hasn’t been a great start to the season for Houston. But he’s confident in his team, as well.
“We’ve gotten off to a little bit of a slow start,” he joked. “But I bet you we pick it up this month. I bet you we donate a lot of money to a good cause.”
Indeed.
Even if one isn’t a fan of the Astros, this is a cause that anyone can get behind.
