Saints’ David Onyemata arrested for marijuana possession

New Orleans Saints defensive lineman David Onyemata received a misdemeanor citation for marijuana possession due to a raid at his apartment in late January.

According to The Advocate, police responded to a tip that marijuana products were going to be at the location. After receiving a warrant to search Onyemata’s apartment, they went to investigate.

“The Sheriff’s Office found marijuana, cannabis oil, marijuana edibles and hemp powder the Tuesday of the search, Rivarde said. Onyemata, whose first name is Ebuka, “was cooperative” with investigators and received a summons to appear in court at a later date, according to Rivarde.”

Onyemata is set to enter the final year of his rookie deal. He was a fourth-round pick in 2016 and played a significant amount of snaps for New Orleans this past year, tallying 35 tackles and 4.5 sacks while appearing in all 16 games for the Saints.

The league will certainly look into this incident, and it’s likely some form of discipline will be forthcoming.
