Odell Beckham Jr. trade reportedly remains a possibility

New York Giants general manager David Gettleman did everything possible this week to dispel the notion that star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is not on the trade block.

Unfortunately for the executive and his Giants, we’re at the silly point in the NFL calendar. One public remark isn’t going to change reports of a growing divide between OBJ and the Giants’ organization.

As locked in as any insider in the NFL world, The Athletic’s Jay Glazer is now indicating that a Beckham trade remains a possibility.

“In talking to sources in Indianapolis I have more confidence in my prediction if the Giants get a fair offer,” Glazer reported. “They won’t trade him for below market value, that is the key. But I think teams would be more inclined to go after Odell than Antonio Brown at this point. There’s less drama around Odell than AB in teams’ eyes.”

That latter point is rather interesting in that at least one high-profile team seems to be out on the Antonio Brown sweepstakes. Said team had previously been linked to Beckham Jr.

Whether this is a wide-ranging belief around the NFL remains to be seen. But Brown’s social media presence and a recent alleged domestic incident complicates things further in that regard.

For the Giants’ part, saying something publicly doesn’t exactly make it the truth. What would Gettleman have gained by openly saying that OBJ is up on the auction block? Nothing.

Even then, it seems highly unlikely that the Giants would move their star receiver for anything short of a massive haul. Glazer’s report mirrors that sentiment.
