This is the best news San Francisco 49ers fans have heard in a minute: Kyle Shanahan says Jimmy Garoppolo has started running.
In an appearance on KNBR’s “Murph and Mac” show Friday morning, Shanahan said he was surprised to see his quarterback running around.
“He looks good,” Shanahan said. “I’m not allowed to be working with him right now, but I was in the office a couple of days ago, and I was stalking him, watching him (on the practice field) outside my window, and he actually surprised me. He was running around, throwing, doing some stuff out of the pocket.”
Shanahan was so surprised, in fact, that he made sure Garoppolo wasn’t doing too much, too soon.
“I even had to call our trainer in there and go, ‘Should he be moving that much?’ And he said, ‘He should be,’ so it was cool to see.”
Garoppolo underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL back on October 3.
Shanahan recently said he fully expects Garoppolo to be able to participate in OTAs this coming May. Based on this news, that seems like a given.
Though, if you have been following Garoppolo’s offseason activities, you probably knew that already.
