Report: Bears could be ‘big-time players’ for top-tier safety

Chicago Bears safety Adrian Amos

The Chicago Bears have a young safety in Adrian Amos whom they like, but that doesn’t mean general manager Ryan Pace is locked into re-signing him.

Amos is set to be a free agent this spring, and according to Hub Arkush on 670 The Score the Bears could be looking to upgrade.

“There’s a growing sense that the Bears will be big-time players in the safety market if Amos’ asking price doesn’t come down.”

He elaborated, saying, “The feeling is why pay Amos’ top safety money when they could pay a few million more per year for a top-end safety.”

The top-end safeties that could be on Pace’s radar include Earl Thomas, Tyrann Mathieu, Lamarcus Joyner, and HaHa Clinton-Dix.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how this unfolds. Remember, last year some very good safeties got low-ball offers because the market was extremely soft for that position.

Though the salary cap is rising, a premium is being placed on other positions such as quarterback, edge rushers, offensive linemen and top perimeter guys on both sides of the line.
