Sunday morning as everyone awaited the results of the selection committee for the College Football Playoff, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer made some comments that sparked some strong reactions on social media.
Meyer said that the Big Ten might be the best conference in the country.
"We're the champions of, arguably, the best division in college football; some would say, maybe, the best conference in college football, top to bottom."
Preach, @OSUCoachMeyer! pic.twitter.com/PRgzK7gR1J

Hint: it is not.

Marty Smith just said Urban Meyer thanks the #B1G is the best conference in the country. Give me a break. pic.twitter.com/GXPNXQJkAC

He also said that winning the Big Ten title was a huge deal and should get the Buckeyes into the playoff. Only, that’s not what he said about Penn State a couple years back, which sparked some more reactions.
😂😂😂
Marty Smith: "urban meyer puts so much emphasis on winning conference titles for getting into the playoff"
This guy is such a slimey used car salesman. What did he say in 2016 again?

So now urban Meyer puts tremendous weight on being a conference champion? That guy wouldn’t know the truth if it bit him on the nose! @_Ohio_State #liarliarpantsonfire

It’s really interesting to hear Urban Meyer say his team deserves a playoff nod for being Big Ten Champs when you consider the fact that he said he said the exact opposite about PSU the year Ohio State was ROUTED 31-0 in the playoff 🧐

Then, just to cap it all off, Meyer felt the need to talk about how Ohio State has overcome adversity…due to the Zach Smith scandal.
Urban Meyer makes the case that because the team has been shrouded in scandal this year, they overcame a lot and deserve a playoff bid.
This is great news for teams looking to boost their strength of schedule, all you have to do is make a scandal to overcome!— RedditCFB (@RedditCFB) December 2, 2018
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA URBAN MEYER SAYS ONE OF THE TWO REASONS THEY DESERVE TO GET IN IS THEIR "EMOTIONAL YEAR" HE HAS THE COJONES TO SAY THAT OUT LOUD
— Lauren Brownlow (@lebrownlow) December 2, 2018
Urban Meyer cited an ‘emotional year’ as reason why Ohio State belongs in the playoff. Mishandling and lying about a domestic abuse scandal should propel his guys into the playoff…
….what!?

Urban Meyer makes a case for having a scandal to overcome in order to bolster your team’s chances for the playoffs. Solid idea…

Needless to say, his comments were not well received by those outside the Ohio State fandom bubble.
