Report: Broncos expected to fire head coach Vance Joseph

The Denver Broncos and general manager John Elway will soon be looking for a new head coach to replace Vance Joseph after two seasons.

That’s the word from Mike Florio of NBC Sports, who reported on Thursday that the Broncos will fire Joseph following the 2018 campaign.

“Unless Elway changes his mind (which is always possible), coach Vance Joseph’s tenure as the head coach is expected to end after only two years,” Florio reported.

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. At 6-8 on the season, Denver is one more defeat away from consecutive losing seasons for the first time since the early 1970s.

The team pretty much fell out of playoff contention with a loss to the lowly San Francisco 49ers back in Week 14. A loss this past Saturday night to Cleveland seemed to be the final straw.

It was previously noted that former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan was discussed as a possible replacement for Joseph after last season. Shanahan’s son, current 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, recently quieted rumors that he’s looking to return to the coaching circles.

We’ll be intrigued to see who the Broncos look for as a replacement. But one thing is clear. Elway himself should also be on the hot seat.
