Redskins’ Colt McCoy out for season with fractured fibula

Colt McCoy

The Washington Redskins took yet another major hit at quarterback Monday night against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

With starter Alex Smith already lost for the season after suffering a devastating leg injury, backup quarterback and stopgap starter Colt McCoy went down with a lower-body injury of his own in the second quarter.

McCoy was replaced under center by the recently signed Mark Sanchez. Unfortunately, Sanchez will now be the starter for the remainder of the season.

X-rays on McCoy’s injury confirmed a fractured right fibula and he’s done for the rest of the year.

Washington entered Week 13 with a 6-5 record and tied with Dallas for first place in the NFC East. Losing a valuable veteran such as McCoy is going to hurt big time.

It’s now up to Sanchez to prove that he’s more than the butt of all the jokes around the NFL.
