NFL OTAs Richard Sherman Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll Russell Wilson Seahawks

Richard Sherman is one of the greatest defensive players in franchise history. He earned four Pro Bowl appearances and led the team to a Super Bowl title in his seven seasons with the organization.

Sherman, 30, shocked the football world this past spring by signing with the division-rival San Francisco 49ers after being released by Seattle.

He’ll make his return trip to the Pacific Northwest on Sunday when the last-place 49ers take on Pete Carroll’s red-hot Seahawks. It’s going to be a game of many emotions for all sides involved.

For his part, Carroll decided to lob a ton of praise in Sherman’s direction ahead of the game.

“He’s having a very successful season,” Carroll said on a conference call with 49ers reporters, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. “Every year you adapt, and Richard is a brilliant football player, and he has always been a guy that we would always work together with the little things that we would grow with year to year to try to stay ahead of it,” Carroll said about his former player, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. “And he’s continued to do that. I think he’s been very successful this season.”

While the 49ers themselves have been among the worst teams in the NFL this season, Sherman continues to play elite-level football. The future Hall of Famer has allowed just 16 receptions in nine games this season.

We’re pretty sure Sherman will want to make a statement against his former team on Sunday. That goes without saying.
