Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Ditka knows a thing or two about successful NFL football in the Windy City.
Having coached the Chicago Bears from 1982-1992, Ditka led this organization to its last Super Bowl title and seven playoff appearances in 11 seasons. Chicago has earned exactly five postseason appearances in the 27 years since Ditka moved on from the Bears.
In talking about the current version of the Bears, Ditka has lofty expectations.
“Barring injuries, they certainly have the talent on that football team to go on to the Super Bowl and win it,” Ditka said, via TMZ Sports.
Not only that, the most-volatile head coach in franchise history firmly believes that these Bears are better than the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.
“I look at this team and I look at the Saints, and these are the two best teams I’ve watched this year,” Ditka defiantly said.
It’s hard to argue that Chicago has not been successful this season. It’s coming off a big divisional win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night and boasts a 7-3 record on the season.
Led by first-year head coach Matt Nagy, the Bears are averaging a robust 29.4 points per game while yielding the fourth-fewest points in the NFL.
There’s certainly a lot to like about this team. We’ve just become accustomed to the Bears not being good. But with an improved second-year quarterback and a stingy defense, the Monsters of the Midway might very well be back.
