Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander did not win the American League Cy Young Award. Shortly after Tampa Bay Rays ace Blake Snell claimed the prize, Verlander’s wife, Kate Upton, made a joke about the vote, trolling herself in the process.
After Verlander finished as the runner-up in 2016, Upton tweeted her displeasure in a rather colorful way (which you can see here). This year, she was on her best behavior.

Upton did voice some displeasure, which both she and Verlander had fun with.
Let’s just say I won’t be going to Tampa any time soon #Tampastrikesagain #CyYoung … Justin wants everyone to know I’m “joking”

I walk away for TWO SECONDS and she puts quotes on “joking”. 😂😂 https://t.co/7w3hIykZtm

She also retweeted a post that showed just how good Verlander has been for such a long time.
For his part, Verlander didn’t seem too broken up about the vote. He posted a picture of himself with his and Upton’s new daughter, Genevieve.
Both Verlander and Upton seem to be taking this one in stride, which we like to see. We wouldn’t have argued if Verlander had won. But there’s not much to dispute Snell’s worthiness, either.
