Someone was going to eventually take the fall after the Chicago Cubs failed to move past the NL Wild Card Game this season. With World Series expectations being the name of the game at Wrigley, an early postseason exit obviously didn’t sit well with Chicago’s brass.
It now looks like hitting coach Chili Davis has bore the brunt of Chicago not meeting expectations.
According to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic, Chicago has informed Davis that he will not return as the team’s hitting coach next season.

This news comes after Chicago finished fourth in the NL in batting and on-base percentage. Chicago also finished in the top 10 in runs scored. Apparently, this was not enough for the Cubs’ brass.
A three-time All-Star and multi-time World Series champ as a player, Davis lasted just one season as the Cubs’ hitting coach. Prior to that, he served in the same role with the Oakland Athletics and Boston Red Sox.
