Cardinals’ Patrick Peterson releases statement amid trade rumors

Reports earlier this week indicated that Arizona Cardinals All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson had requested a trade from the struggling franchise.

While the Cardinals themselves were quick to deny that Peterson is in fact on the trade block, it seems to make sense. Arizona heads into Week 8 with a 1-6 record and is in the beginning stages of a rebuild. At 28 years old, Peterson might be looking to latch on with a contender.

In speaking about said trade rumors, Peterson reaffirmed his commitment to the Cardinals and seemed to suggest that he’s not looking to be traded.

“I’ve been incredibly frustrated with how the season has gone. But my energy is 100 focused on being part of the solution and helping us turn this around,” Peterson wrote on his Twitter account. “I’ve never shied away from a challenge before and I’m not starting now. I have always given my all to the Cardinals organization, my teammates and fans. That is was I intend to do for the years to come. I am an Arizona Cardinal, and my focus is on this week’s game.”

In no way does this mean Peterson won’t be traded. There will be a plethora of teams interested in his services if he is indeed put on the market between now and the Oct. 30 deadline.

Instead, it’s the future Hall of Famer’s way of reaffirming his commitment to the Cardinals. That can’t be seen as a bad thing.
