Cardinals owner: Patrick Peterson trade ‘not happening’

If any NFL contenders were hoping to land Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson at the trade deadline, Arizona’s owner Michael Bidwill stomped any hope out on Thursday.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Bidwill outright rejected the notion Arizona’s star cornerback could be traded this season.

“Not true,” Bidwill said, via NFL Network. “I’ve seen the speculation. But it’s not happening. Not happening.”

In early October, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported Arizona was willing to move Peterson before the trade deadline. However, Bidwell is seemingly making it clear that Arizona won’t even entertain the notion of moving its shutdown cornerback.

The Cardinals enter Week 7 with a 1-5 record and could drop even further in the standings if they lose to the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. While the Cardinals will certainly listen to some trade offers before the NFL’s trade deadline, it now seems highly unlikely Peterson will be a player on the move.
