Report: Cardinals open to trading All-Pro CB Patrick Peterson

At 1-4 on the season and finding themselves in the beginning stages of a rebuild, the Arizona Cardinals are likely going to expedite said rebuild ahead of the Oct. 30 trade deadline.

Linebackers Deone Bucannon and Haason Reddick have already been bandied about as trade bait. We can now add one of the greatest defensive players in franchise history to that list.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Cardinals are open to trading seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson.

“The Arizona Cardinals could be one of the NFL’s most active teams ahead of the trade deadline, with league sources indicating that All-Pro corner Patrick Peterson is among the players the team is willing to move,” La Canfora reported.

It must also be noted that Cardinals beat writer Mike Jurecki countered said report with his own take.

Whether Arizona is really looking to move Peterson remains to be seen. At 28 years old, he’s at the back end of his prime. It’s in this that the Cardinals might be smart to get something for the three-time All-Pro.

Though, Peterson is in the midst of potentially the best season of his career. He’s yielding a sub 40.0 passer rating when targeted and is back to playing elite-level football. Should the Cards in fact move him, the expectation here is that they’d get a whole lot in return.
