The Buffalo Bills are turning to rookie quarterback Josh Allen as the starter in Week 2, but head coach Sean McDermott isn’t ruling out another change.
The second-year boss said he doesn’t feel a need to elaborate on the switch, per ESPN’s Mike Rodak, and wouldn’t anoint Allen as the long-term guy.
Sean McDermott: “I’m not going to get into how permanent this move is."

McDermott tabbed Nathan Peterman in Week 1, and it couldn’t have gone much worse. He completed a paltry 5-of-18 passes for 24 yards with two interceptions and three sacks. In the process, Buffalo fell behind the Baltimore Ravens 40-0.
Allen then entered the game, leading his first career scoring drive — a field goal — that prevented a shutout in a 47-3 beatdown. The Wyoming product ended with a 6-of-15 line for 74 yards, adding 26 rushing yards.
Sunday, the Bills will host the Los Angeles Chargers. After the home opener, Buffalo travels to the Minnesota Vikings and their elite defense. Then, the Bills will challenge Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
It’s a tough stretch for Allen to open his career, but it’s clear Peterman isn’t the answer at quarterback. Buffalo may as well see what Allen can do.
