Friday was a difficult day for those associated with the Washington Redskins. Just one day after he made his NFL debut against the New England Patriots, rookie second-round pick Derrius Guice was diagnosed with a torn ACL.
The injury itself seemed minor at first. In fact, an initial diagnosis earlier on Friday noted that the LSU product suffered a sprained MCL.
So when it was noted that Guice did in fact tear his ACL, those around the football world were taken aback.
In talking about the injury to his teammate, fellow running back Chris Thompson couldn’t hold back tears.
It’s a difficult video to watch.

Guice was having himself a tremendous training camp, impressing coaches with both his commitment to the game and his on-field performance (more on that here).
This came mere months after the talented young running back dropped out of the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft due to some absurd questions about his maturity level.
As Thompson notes, Guice has been through a lot. Seeing him go down in his first preseason game was a bitter pill for most of us to swallow. Obviously, that includes the running back’s teammates.
