The Dallas Cowboys could be without one of the best offensive lineman in the NFL once the regular season gets going. Four-time Pro Bowl center Travis Frederick has been sidelined with a stinger in the shoulder/neck area.

While the injury itself was initially said to be minor, Frederick is now getting a second opinion from doctors outside the Cowboys’ organization. And according to this report from David Moore of Dallas Morning News, said opinion could include surgery.

“Travis Frederick is seeking additional opinions on the stingers he’s experienced to determine if rest is the best option or another course of action, one that includes surgery, is required,” Moore reported.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated on Tuesday that results from the second opinion were “positive for the future.” Though, any time we’re talking about the spine and possible nerve damage to the neck area, there has to be some concern.

Losing Frederick for an extended period of time would be a major blow for the Cowboys. He’s considered the best center in the game and a true game-changer from the interior of the line.
