The NFL world has known Aaron Rodgers will become the highest-paid player, but it was simply a matter of when. The answer is now clearer.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers quarterback will have a new contract finalized before the beginning of the 2018 regular season.
Packers and Aaron Rodgers are expected to complete their record-breaking extension by the end of the weekend, source tells ESPN. But the deal is expected to now be finalized and in place before the start of the regular season, per source.

Schefter notes the new deal is expected to tie Rodgers to Green Bay “well beyond” the two remaining years on his contract.
As it stands, Rodgers holds cap hits of $20.5 million and $21.1 million over the next two seasons. However, the extension is certain to hold a considerable raise and pass Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan’s deal as the most lucrative.
Rodgers missed most of the 2017 season with a broken collarbone, but he’s thrown for 313 touchdowns compared to only 78 interceptions during his impressive career.
