Odell Beckham Jr. on contract: It will work itself out

Giants star WR Odell Beckham Jr.

Unlike other star players looking for lucrative contract extensions, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. decided to report to training camp with the rest of his team. It shows an improved attitude from a man that’s viewed as enigmatic in the Big Apple.

In discussing his contract situation on Saturday, the talented wide receiver had a pretty sharp response, one that should clear up concerns for the Giants and their fans.

Beckham, 25, is in the final year of his rookie contract and is slated to earn all of $8.5 million. That’s far below what his true market value represents.

Coming off a 2017 campaign in which he missed all but four games to an ankle injury, OBJ is forced to prove himself once more entering a contract year. His first three seasons in the NFL saw the talented former LSU star record a combined 288 receptions for 4,122 yards and 35 touchdowns. He’s clearly among the most productive pass catchers when healthy.

The issue here is that New York discussed trading Beckham with other teams this past offseason. Some might think that would have burnt a bridge. Apparently, it has not. That’s certainly a good sign for the Giants heading into the season.
