The Kansas City Chiefs are now razor thin at the safety position. Pro Bowler Eric Berry has been battling through a heel injury that’s sidelined him for some time now. Meanwhile, fellow veteran Daniel Sorensen is sidelined for the foreseeable future with a knee injury.
In a surprise move, the Chiefs have now released six-year veteran Robert Golden, per his request.
The #Chiefs have released veteran S Robert Golden at his request, his agent Jordan Woy told me, saying Golden didn’t feel like he was getting the opportunity to contribute the way he wanted to. “He’s hoping to catch on with another team soon,” Woy said.

Golden, 27, came over from the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent this past spring. The former Arizona standout started nine games over the past two seasons, recording a combined 47 tackles, three passes defended and one interception.
While the move itself isn’t earth-shattering, it does create another hole for the Chiefs to fill at the safety position moving forward. Golden was a depth player for a Chiefs team without any depth at safety.
It makes us wonder if Kansas City will look at what has been a stagnant free agent market for veteran safeties. Maybe Eric Reid could make some sense here.
