Andrew Luck to play ‘about a quarter’ in preseason opener

Andrew Luck

The long-awaited return of Andrew Luck will happen in the Indianapolis Colts’ preseason opener, and Frank Reich shared how long the quarterback will play.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the first-year head coach said he expects Luck to share the field with Indy’s starters against the Seattle Seahawks for “about a quarter.”

“We’ll build a confidence lever there,” Reich said. “And sure, he needs to get his snaps, and maybe a little bit more. But I’m not gonna be dramatic with it.”

That’s right on par with normal participation for the No. 1 unit. The starting quarterback will typically be under center for a series or two, and this expectation means Luck should lead two or three drives.

It’s another sign Luck is as healthy as could be since returning from a shoulder injury. He’s been pain-free during training camp, and reports suggests his arm strength is nearly returned to pre-injury level.

The Seahawks will host Luck and the Colts on Aug. 9.
