Larry Fitzgerald has no plans to retire, is a Cardinal for life

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is a legend in the making and turns 35 years old this August. He is entering his 15th year in the league and currently has no desire to play anywhere else other than Arizona.

“If I’m not playing in Arizona, I won’t be playing anywhere,” he said, per Jace Frederick of Pioneer Press. “I’ve built a good life for myself down there. Playing in the same place for 15 years is a true blessing.”

We might note that Fitzgerald said this while working with his youth football camp at the Academy of the Holy Angels in Richfield, Minnesota. This is where Fitzgerald attended high school. Though he has roots in Minnesota, it does not sound as if Fitzgerald would ever consider playing for the Vikings.

The future Hall of Fame receiver also has no immediate plans to retire, despite being one of the older players in the league.

“It doesn’t really matter about the age, it’s about what you put into it and your mind-set,” he said. “Everybody kind of takes numbers and assumes this is when it’s supposed to end. As an athlete, fortunately, you write your own script. If you still produce and you play at a high level, you kind of determine how long you want to play. If I can stay at a high level, I still keep destiny in my own hands.”

Currently, Fitzgerald is playing at an extremely high level, having recorded no less than 107 receptions in his last three seasons. He has also averaged 1,131 yards with 21 total touchdowns during that span.

Often, Fitzgerald looks like a one-man show on the Cardinals’ offense. This season will see him develop chemistry with quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Josh Rosen.

Fitz is the Cardinals’ all-time leader in receptions (1,234), receiving yards (15,545) and receiving touchdowns (110). As long as he continues to play at a high level, Cardinals will be rewarded with his presence on the field.
