As we’ve seen so many times before, it appears having his potential replacement drafted in the first round has pushed Joe Flacco to greater heights.
Lamar Jackson got all the praise this offseason during OTAs and minicamp, and he even earned first-team reps over Flacco at one point. But through the first week of training camp, the veteran has taken his game to a whole other level.
Peter King of Pro Football Talk shared this in his latest Football Morning in America column: “One longtime Ravens observer told me here Thursday that this first week of camp for Flacco has been “far and away” the best he’s looked in camp in his 11 years as a Raven. Quite a thing to say for a former Super Bowl MVP, for a guy who’s been the no-doubt starter almost since he walked onto campus as a rookie in 2008.”
King also related that, while he was visiting Baltimore’s camp Thursday, he witnessed a handful of “beautiful medium-to-deep throws right on the money in team drills.”
Baltimore completely revamped its receiving corps this year as well, and it appears the players it added have taken to Flacco like fish take to water.
Clearly, Flacco is on his game right now, and if he can get it anywhere close to the level we saw during his Super Bowl run back in 2012 the Ravens will be a team to watch this season.
