Already without defensive end David Irving for the first four games of the season after he violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy, the Dallas Cowboys were preparing for the youngster to be sidelined even longer.
Earlier this offseason, allegations arose that the fourth-year defender assaulted his ex-girlfriend. While she later recanted and police in Frisco refused to press charges, the NFL works under another set of rules. Just ask teammate Ezekiel Elliott.
The good news here is that Irving will not face discipline over said domestic violence allegations. This news comes to us via ESPN’s Todd Archer and is a breath of fresh air for a Cowboys organization that continues to face off-field issues after off-field issues.
It also comes a mere day after fellow Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory was fully reinstated by the NFL after being suspended for a good portion of the past two years.
Irving, 24, was an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State back in 2015. He broke out big time last season, recording seven sacks in eight games (all starts).
