Carson Wentz still aiming to start in Week 1

Carson Wentz

The Philadelphia Eagles got some good news on the Carson Wentz recovery front when he was cleared for 11-on-11 work ahead of training camp, rather than starting out on the PUP list.

On Thursday after participating in his first full practice since the ACL injury last year, Wentz made it clear he is still aiming to return to action in Week 1. However, he did make it clear he’s not pushing anything.

So far, Wentz has been on track to reach his goal. Even dating back to the playoffs last year, he has been looking great as he incrementally moved his rehab forward, one step at a time.

If Wentz is not able to start in Week 1, then the Eagles have a built-in backup plan, thanks to Nick Foles. He’s obviously one of the best backups in the league, having won Super Bowl MVP in February.

But if Wentz is good to go, then the Eagles shouldn’t hesitate to start him. He’s one of the best young quarterbacks in the game today and was a legitimate MVP candidate last year before being injured.
