The Philadelphia Eagles continue to be cautious with young quarterback Carson Wentz, but they will not have to place him on the PUP list to open training camp.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Wednesday evening that Wentz will be limited but at least will practice at the start of camp. The decision to keep Wentz off the PUP list means that he will be on the team’s 53-man roster to open the season.

This means that the Eagles can continue to bring Wentz around slowly while not handcuffing themselves to a timeline he might be able to exceed. Remember, players who are given the Reserve PUP designation are automatically out for the first six weeks of the regular season.
For what it’s worth, Wentz has continued to point to Week 1 as the date he’ll be ready to play, barring any hiccups in his recovery from the ACL injury that cut his 2017 season short.
