Stephen A. Smith: LeBron James has texted Kevin Durant about playing on Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are considered a top free-agent choice for LeBron James, and ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith is reporting a larger plan could be in the works.

While on First Take, per ESPN’s Pablo Torre, Smith said LeBron has reached out to Kevin Durant about teaming up on the Lakers.

Oh, the rumors that fly during NBA free agency.

Perhaps it’s true LeBron has contacted Durant and gauged the Golden State Warriors forward’s interest in a move. And sure, the thought of the NBA’s two best players sharing the floor is an appealing one.

But we urge you to not get overly invested in this discussion. While the Lakers have a legitimate chance to land James, Durant has little reason to leave Golden State.

Why should he, anyway? Since joining the Warriors, Durant has celebrated a pair of championships and earned two NBA Finals MVP honors.

LeBron and KD might play on the same team next season, but it would only be during the 2019 All-Star Game.
