Report: Nuggets, Will Barton agree to four-year contract

After an earlier report that the Denver Nuggets were close to re-signing forward Will Barton, it appears the two sides have now agreed to a contract.

According to Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports, Barton and the Nuggets are set to come to terms on a four-year deal worth more than $50 million.

The 27-year-old veteran drew interest across the league, but ultimately remains with the organization which he has spent the past three and a half seasons with. In 2017-18, Barton set a career-high with 15.7 points per game and a career-best 45.2 field-goal percentage.

According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, Barton’s contract contains a player option after the third year. It is a big incentive for Barton, who can become a free agent again when he is 30.

Now with Barton signed for the next three-plus years, Denver can focus its efforts on signing center Nikola Jokic to a max contract.
