Report: Kevin Durant tells Warriors he wants short-term deal

While everyone anticipated Kevin Durant would return to the Golden State Warriors, the debate centered around what kind of contract he would sign. Now, with just hours before free agency starts, the answer is known.

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, Durant intends to tell Golden State that he wants a one-year deal from the team with a player option to allow him to enter free agency next offseason.

Durant, who averaged 26.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists last season with the Warriors, has won consecutive NBA championships since he signed with Golden State.

As reported earlier, the decision to go with a one-year deal with an option for the second year allows Golden State to save $5 million in cap space. Given the Warriors reportedly plan to make a big splash in free agency, the extra cap should prove quite helpful.
