LOOK: Julian Edelman confirms suspension, issues apology

The New England Patriots’ world was rocked on Thursday with news that veteran wide receiver Julian Edelman has been suspended the first four games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL’s PED policy

It was a shocking piece of information, one that could have wide-ranging ramifications for the two-time defending AFC champs early next season.

In confirming his suspension, Edelman released a heartfelt statement and an apology through his Instagram on Friday.

“I’m very sorry. I don’t know what happened. I’ve taken many, many tests obviously over the course of my career and nothing like this has ever happened,” Edelman wrote. “I apologize to the Kraft family, my coaches, teammates and fans. As this matter is being appealed I can’t say any more. But no matter what, I will be ready to play and pursue another championship with our team and for Patriots fans around the world.”

With Edelman now likely sidelined for the first quarter of the season, New England is going to have to rely on a bunch of unproven receivers to help Tom Brady in the passing game. That includes Jordan Matthews, Phillip Dorsett, Malcom Mitchell and special teams ace Cordarrelle Patterson.

It’s a less than ideal scenario for a team that enters the 2018 season with obvious Super Bowl expectations.
