Frank Reich: Andrew Luck ‘real close’ to throwing a football

Andrew Luck

Injured Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck still isn’t throwing regulation footballs. But according to his coach, Frank Reich, that’s close to changing.

Reich told reporters on Thursday that Luck wasn’t far from being able to throw.

If true, it’s certainly good news. At least one teammate has expressed optimism that he’ll be ready for Week 1. That may end up being true, but the road to recovery has been slow.

In March, it was reported that Luck would begin throwing again in April or May. Obviously, that didn’t exactly go to plan. Luck hasn’t played a game since the end of the 2016 season, having missed all of 2017 with a shoulder injury.

Through Luck’s career, Indianapolis has generally been at least above average with him, and one of the worst in the league without him. So, we don’t blame the Colts for having an optimistic outlook.

But given how slow this process has gone and how many false starts there have been, nobody could be blamed for having a “believe it when we see it” attitude, either.
