After using the No. 3 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft on quarterback Sam Darnold, the New York Jets have reportedly decided to release Bryce Petty.

Petty was originally a fourth-round pick by New York out of Baylor in 2015. He struggled mightily to adapt to the pro game, particularly finding it difficult to consistently complete passes to his receivers. Petty has completed just 53.1 percent of his passes for 1,353 yards with just four touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Over the course of the past two seasons, he’s appeared in 10 games, including seven starts while earning a record of 1-6 in those starts.
New York is likely not done revamping its quarterback room. It was reported earlier this year that both Petty and former second-round pick Christian Hackenberg were both likely on the way out.
The Jets have Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater as well, and general manager Mike Maccagnan recently said Bridgewater is healthy and was throwing passes during the opening day of Phase 2 in the offseason program.
