The New York Jets signed Teddy Bridgewater to a one-year prove-it deal this offseason, and things appear to be going well early on. General manager Mike Maccagnan said on Tuesday that the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback is healthy and is throwing the ball at the start of the team’s second phase of the offseason program.

New York will likely start the season with veteran Josh McCown under center, even after selecting Sam Darnold out of USC with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft. Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are also both still on the roster, but that’s likely to change in short order.
Even if Bridgewater can stay healthy and shows he’s capable of playing at a high level, his roster spot is in no way guaranteed. Still, any positive update is noteworthy for this young man, who’s career (and potentially his very life) was in jeopardy ahead of the 2016 season when he suffered that catastrophic knee injury as a member of the Vikings.
