Since the New York Jets traded up in the second round a few years back to select Christian Hackenberg out of Penn State, the quarterback has become an invisible man within the organization.
Heading into Year 3, that hasn’t changed.
On Tuesday as the team got into its OTAs, Hackenberg once again was not allowed any reps, either in 7-of-7 drills or during the team period.
Christian Hackenberg’s practice day: Zero reps in team period. Zero reps in 7-on-7 drills. Oh, my. #Jets

In his first two seasons as a professional, Hackenberg has yet to enter an NFL game. When he’s gotten his opportunities in the preseason, the young quarterback has been utterly dreadful, with one scout going to extreme lengths to describe what he saw watching the tape from those games.
Given the fact that New York selected Sam Darnold No. 3 overall this April, and given that Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater are both on the roster, it seems like only a matter of time before Hackenberg joins Bryce Petty as a former Jets quarterback.
