The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl with Nick Foles behind center, but incumbent starter Carson Wentz is confident he’ll be leading the team’s offense to begin the 2018 NFL season.
During an appearance on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, Wentz said he’s feeling good about meeting his goal of a Week 1 return.
“I’m very confident. It’s a fluid process, so you never know how it’s going to go, but where we’re at, just trying to do what the doctors say and just take it step by step. … I feel really good and really confident for Week 1.”
Wentz’s MVP-caliber 2017 season ended in Week 14 due to a torn left ACL. Athletes often need more than nine months to fully recover from the surgery.
However, Philly reportedly expects Wentz to be healed in time for 2018, and a recent workout video only bolsters the realistic hope of a Week 1 return.
The Eagles can be confident with Foles running the offense, but they’ll surely be excited to have Wentz back on the field — especially if he’s ready immediately.
