76ers launch investigation into Bryan Colangelo, burner accounts

Bryan Colangelo

In the aftermath of The Ringer exposing potential burner accounts used by Philadelphia 76ers executive Bryan Colangelo, the team has opened its own investigation into the connection.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports notes the Sixers are calling the allegations against Colangelo “serious.”

Colangelo reportedly used five anonymous Twitter accounts to monitor information and occasionally respond to news about the team. The accounts criticized Joel Embiid, former executive Sam Hinkie and Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri, among others.

Embiid has since responded to the news in typical Embiid fashion, but the trouble is only beginning for Colangelo.

If found responsible for sharing medical information, the Sixers’ president of basketball operations and general manager would be guilty of an extreme violation of privacy. That is simply inexcusable for a team executive on a public forum.

The Ringer has laid the groundwork, but what comes next from Philadelphia itself will determine Colangelo’s future.
